We Honor Veterans

It may surprise many people to learn that 25 percent of those who die every year in the U.S. are Veterans. To provide care and support that reflect the important contributions made by these men and women, Regional Hospice has become a national partner of We Honor Veterans, a pioneering campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

As a We Honor Veterans Partner, Regional Hospice will be implementing ongoing Veteran-centered education for their staff and volunteers to help improve the care we provide to the Veterans we proudly serve.

The We Honor Veterans campaign provides tiered recognition that demonstrates a systematic commitment to improving the care for Veterans. As a partner, Regional Hospice can assess our ability to serve Veterans, and using resources provided as part of the campaign, integrate best practices for providing end-of-life care to Veterans in our organization. Regional Hospice recognizes that the service provided by our Veterans did not come without a price; which sometimes creates special needs for our patients. By recognizing the unique needs of our nation’s Veterans who are facing a life-limiting illness, better able to accompany and guide Veterans and their families toward a peaceful ending.

The resources of We Honor Veterans focus on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement, coupled with Veteran-centric education for health care staff caring for Veterans. To learn more about We Honor Veterans, please visit www.wehonorveterans.org.

At Regional Hospice, it is our goal to serve these men and women with the dignity they deserve and to ensure that these Veterans feel appreciated for their service.

Never Alone

I waited and listened, with no reply,
I stood in silence, yet I heard no cry
I once had the strength, yet now I’m weak,
I climbed the mountain but I never breached
You told me to call out to you, to reach for you,
Yet I felt that you never showed me what to say or do

Even though I feel abandoned, am I?
Though I feel weak, am I left to die?
You promised me you’d never hide,
You vowed that I was your life
My angel, you saved me, but am I stone?
Now I know that you’re with me and I’m never alone
Never alone in this cold place,
Never abandoned in this dark space
You brought me forward with so much to give,
Never alone, I have you, at last I can live.

Do you see what I am going through, why I feel trapped?
Not a single soul can fix what I’ve unwrapped
I once sang with such glorious beauty, now I’m silent,
What shall I do, if I’m done fighting?
You said I was strong with a voice so beautiful,
Yet my voice seems cracked, useless and vulnerable

I may feel alone in this battle, so am I?
I feel useless, powerless, a song ready to die
I was deemed worthy of a gift that I needed to share,
But should I release it, should I even care?
Thy angel, you are here with me, to lead me with strength,
I finally know that I’m never alone, that he gives me faith
Never alone to live out my dream to embrace my voice.
Never abandoned to lead my life and every choice
You have raised me from my ashes of fears,
Never alone will I have to fight the tears.

A Soldier’s prayer

Lord, I ask for courage,
Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears…
Courage to take me where
Others will not go.

I ask for strength…
Strength of body to protect others
Strength of spirit to lead others
I ask for dedication…
Dedication to my job to do it well
Dedication to my country,
To keep it safe.

Give me, Lord, concern…
For those who trust me
And compassion for those
Who will need me, and please lord…
Through it all be by my side
